Virgina Anderson

Virginia grew up on a farm in the northeastern plains of Colorado. She holds degrees in music from the University of Colorado at Denver and Metro State University. Her passion for music carried her across the Atlantic Ocean to study singing, composition and improvisation with teachers in Germany and Sweden. She is a Certified Therapeutic Singer and also teaches at the Julie Davis Music School of the Swallow Hill Music Association. In her spare time she is an emerging folk singer and songwriter.

A Professional Music Educator for over 25 years, Virginia believes that, “Everyone has a gift for making music. Simply Music, a playing-based approach to learning to play piano, is a more intuitive learning form for many students because it teaches music as a language – you learn to speak it before you learn to read.”

Virginia teaches the following classes:
Play A Story

This is a guided approach for young children introducing them to improvisation and other musical ideas supporting beauty and reverence through the piano keyboard. Simply Music Piano Lessons – Foundation 1

For students ages 7 and up. This is the first foundation in a series of 9 Foundations used in Simply Music piano method. Simply Music is a playing based approach. You will learn to play the music first, like learning to speak. Reading skills are introduced when the student reaches the playing skills of Foundation 3 through 4. Foundation 1 begins the process with 10 pieces of contemporary, blues and classical styles that are learned and played with both hands. Additional arrangements, improvisation and composition will also be introduced. The required Student Home Materials include a reference book with memory cues, DVD, CD, a book to write notes about each lesson, a play list and a cardboard practice keyboard. Each Foundation takes approximately three months to complete. All children must be accompanied by an adult family member. Foundation 2 will follow in January at the same day and time as the Foundation 1 class for which you have registered. Materials are available for purchase through Rockley Music and

Musical Movement and Song

Each class will begin with musical movement games that show us how to relax and be more at ease with ourselves and others. Then we will turn to vocal toning to deepen the breath and create more harmony both within ourselves and literally with others as we sing new, old and familiar songs together. This class will be offered in two forms; as a one hour weekly session, Wednesdays at 6:00 PM and a two hour (with a pause in between) monthly session on a Sunday 4:00-6:00 PM. All ages and walks of life are welcome to join this community gathering. We will also be taking part in joining the Good Earth Singers on December 21, 2012. Please go to: to learn more about singing one song for one earth.
