Melissa has been playing violin for nearly 20 years, beginning in 5th grade in Jefferson County Public Schools, and has played viola for 14. She started teaching lessons as a high school senior and has never looked back! Her degrees are in music education (Bachelors from UNCO) and violin performance (Masters from UWM) and she is excited to join Rockley Music Education Center! Current and former students have ranged in age from 3 to adult and ability from absolute beginner to college level. She welcomes new students of any age and ability level! Melissa also has experience working with autistic students and others with special needs and loves including them in her studio.
Lessons with Melissa include classical repertoire, folk songs/fiddling and other pieces and exercises based on each student’s needs and abilities. She firmly believes that everyone can make beautiful music and strives to help her students become more confident in their abilities as musicians as well as people. Lessons should be fun, and Melissa hopes to instill a life-long love of music in each of her students. Her expectations are high and she spends time working with students on setting and achieving goals in their practice as well as other aspects of life.
